No one has been able to stop the high octane Dryden Eagles offence until Friday.
The ‘Blue and Gold’ failed to capitalize on favourable field position in the opening quarter and sputtered in the second half as the Fort Frances Muskies won the NorWOSSA championship 14-3 at Harry McMaster Field.
The Eagles got a single point on the opening kick-off when the ball reached the end zone and cashed in on a bad snap later on as the Muskies gave up a safety.
Quarterback Gabe Hyatt got the first major of the contest with a two yard quarterback sneak in the second quarter, with the Muskies successful on the following two point conversion.
Dryden started the second half with the ball, but a screen pass attempt by Peter Zilkalns on the opening play was picked off by Caden Curtis.
The Eagles were plagued by untimely penalties, sloppy play and a couple of turnovers and didn’t look like the 4-0 team that fans saw in the regular season bubble.
Fort Frances would secure northwestern Ontario bragging rights when Darius Brenna exploded for a 75 yard run in the fourth quarter.
Fynn Livingston would give Dryden some life with a fumble recovery but the Eagles were held by a stingy and aggressive defence.
