Jacqueline Isabella (Sprague) Armstrong
Jackie Armstrong, age 83, of Dryden, Ontario, devoted wife/mother/grandmother/sister/aunt, and friend, peacefully went to her heavenly home, early July 24, 2021, at Princess Court Long Term Care.
Mom was the eldest child of Jean and Albert Sprague, born August 2, 1937, in Ingersoll, Oxford County, Ontario. After earning her Registered Nursing Assistant certificate Jackie moved to Dryden in 1961 where she began her lifelong career and met the love of her life, Robert Armstrong. Married in 1962, she and Robert enjoyed 59 years together raising their four children, while enjoying all the treasures of Northwestern Ontario, fishing and camping as a family and well into retirement. One of Jackie and Robert’s most memorable trips in retirement was to Alaska to travel along the Alaskan Highway built by Grandpa Armstrong.
A nurturing caretaker, Jackie devoted 34 years to nursing care working at both the Dryden Hospital and Patricia Gardens. Mom and Dad’s home was always open to family and friends whether a social visit or anyone in need of a roof over their heads for as long as needed.
Rarely would Jackie be seen without a pair of knitting needles in her hands creating gifts and craft sale items. You may be one of the multiple friends who she enjoyed playing Bingo with. Her many past times included reading, sewing, baking, and providing a caring home for many beloved pets. Jackie maintained a strong Christian faith and selflessly volunteered for the St. Luke’s Anglican Church community.
Jackie is survived by her loving husband Robert, children Glen Armstrong (Stefanie), Leanne Hus (Mark), Ronald Armstrong (Tammy) and Shelly Brunet (Richie), grandchildren Maya Hus, Nolan Hus and Jolie Brunet, brothers Peter Sprague, Michael Sprague (Lucille), Wesley Sprague (Betty) and David Sprague, plus numerous dear nieces, and nephews. Jackie was predeceased by her parents Jean and Albert Sprague, her sisters Joanne Sprague and Ginny Breton, grandson Mason Hus, father and mother-in-laws Ronald and Ilene Armstrong, brother-in-law Melvin Armstrong, his wife Ellen and her nephew Darcy Armstrong.
In recent years, Jackie was faced with health challenges that weakened her body and never her spirit, negotiating her final days on her terms and with profound faith.
The family wishes to thank everyone from the DRHC and Princess Court for their compassionate care and support.
Cremation has taken place with internment of ashes to be held at a later date. Donations if desired may be made to Princess Court DECO Fund, the Royal Canadian Legion Dryden Branch 61, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, or a local charity of your choice through Steven’s Funeral Home, PO Box 412, Dryden P8N 2Z1.
