Another remote First Nation community is being threatened by a forest fire.
A blaze near Keewaywin broke out Saturday afternoon, about 14 kilometres to the south.
It’s burned about 15 hectares.
Currently, any smoke from the fire is blowing away from the communty.
The fire was one of ten new starts the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry identified.
Four of those fires were in the Kenora area, two each in the Rainy River District and Red Lake region with single blazes within the Dryden and Sioux Lookout fire districts.
There are now 137 active fires with 44 considered not under control.
The forest fire hazard is now high to extreme in the western portion of the region and low to moderate in the east.
