Some badly needed help for exhausted fire crews in northwestern Ontario.
Mexico is sending 100 firefighters and support staff to the region to help in the fight against some 96 active wildfires, 32 of which are classed as not under control.
The Mexican contingent will arrive in Toronto Saturday and be briefed on fire, safety and COVID-19 protocols before receiving their assignments.
They will be required to follow local health and safety guidelines such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and daily self-assessments.
The Mexican fire crews will also remain in their own cohort.
Meantime, nearly two dozen firefighters will take off from Halifax Stanfield International Airport today to provide local assistance.
The crew will join other Atlantic Canadian firefighters to form two, 17-person crews headed first to Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.
The hazard remains high to extreme and a Restricted Fire Zone remains in place.
