An evacuation order is highly likely for the Municipality of Red Lake due to persistent and close forest fires.
In their update this afternoon the Municipality says unless there is significant improvement in weather and wind conditions, an evacuation order may be issued in the coming days.
Both the Municipality and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry continue to closely monitor Red Lake Fire 77 and Red Lake Fire 16.
According to the MNRF interactive fire map, Red Lake 77 is not under control at 6900 hectares in size and Red Lake Fire 16 is being observed at 38547.4 hectares in size.
The Municipality adds should an evacuation be issued, it will be a staged approach based on a number of factors.
Residents are asked to make any necessary preparations, stay alert for communications from the Municipality and be prepared to evacuate the community if called to do so.
Red Lake Mayor Fred Mota says, “I ask that we remain patient and calm during these challenging and unpredictable times. As Red Lakers we are resilient and we will as a community, make it through this event as we have in the most recent past. Take care of each other and stay safe everyone.”
