A Manitoba man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant now faces attempted murder charges in southern Ontario.
Brad Collins is a Detective Inspector with the Provincial Police and says two suspects fired at police during a standoff outside a Belleville home last week.
“Upon entry to the residence, officers were met with gun fire from within the residence. Just after 6:00am, on June 18, with assistance of our crisis negotiators, two individuals exited the residence and were taken into custody safely.”
Collins notes, “One individual was identified as Eric Wildman, 34-years-of-age. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, under the direction of the Major Case Manager, myself, are now investigating the attempted murder on OPP officers.”
Wildman was sought in a massive manhunt near the Ontario/Manitoba boundary last week.
He is a suspect in the disappearance of 40-year-old Clifford Joseph in the St. Clements, Manitoba area.
Wildman has already been charged with a series of offences by RCMP.
