The Jeremiah McKay Kabayshewekamik Hostel in Sioux Lookout is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Planning for the hostel began in June 2004, in conjunction with the building of the Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
Prior to the new building, the hostel was located at the hospital’s 7th Avenue site.
It had 39 beds and was lacking in space and services.
Clients were moved to the new site on February 14, 2011 and has since served more than 330,000 people.
In the near future, the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority will be formally announcing more growth and exciting changes at the facility.
A new playground was introduced this past summer and staff say they are taking additional steps to meet the growing need of their clients.
A small cake cutting ceremony was held this past week to recognize ten years of service.
