The Northwest Angle #33 First Nation says it’s been notified of two cases of COVID-19.
The band says there is potential of a third probable case in community as well.
Leadership in the community has started the process and is working with the Kenora Chiefs Advisory and the Kenora Health Access Center.
COVID testing teams will be heading into Angle Inlet on Sunday to conduct testing with membership, and arrangements are being made to have teams brought into Dog Paw as well as soon as possible.
The band says it is working closely with partner organizations to arrange for any measures that need to be taking place at this time.
Band council has asked members to follow public health guidelines and measures which include staying at home, no travelling outside of the community unless for essential services, social distancing, wearing masks and hand washing.
To prevent the spread, Northwest Angle #33 has made the decision to lock down the community, meaning no one is allowed in or out of community unless for essential services.
“We will do everything we can to help protect our community and our members, we will take all necessary precautions and work in collaboration closely with partner organizations to help contain this,” said Chief Darlene Comegan.
“We are hoping by implementing extra restrictions early and continuing to follow the provincial guidelines, that we can keep the cases to a small number.”
We take the health of our members very seriously, and will work together.
