Activity has returned in the Ring of Fire mining development in northwestern Ontario.
President and CEO of Noront Resources Alan Coutts tells us it comes after the pandemic halted all exploration work in the area.
“Everyone’s lost maybe three months in their work programs and a lot of the work we do is exploration work for new mineral deposits in the ring and this is a good time to be doing that,” notes Coutts.
The return to exploration means the company’s Esker mining camp has reopened with Coutts explaining “Now we feel that we understand what it takes to go back in to do work, (and) we have the proper protocols in place” to achieve that.
Noront has several developments in the works including the Blackbird and Black Thor chromite deposits, and the Eagle’s Nest nickel and copper project. In addition, Coutts says with gold hitting about $2,000 an ounce it is worth exploring for again noting “Right now gold is red hot and so we’re skewing part of our program to follow up on our gold discoveries.”
