As people are staying inside and shopping less because of COVID-19, changes are being seen in incidents reported by Dryden Police.
Chief Doug Palson says crimes like shoplifting are obviously down compared to last year as stores are only starting to reopen.
Palson adds drug incidents are also down but that’s likely due to a lack of enforcement as the detective constable is working out in the field now and the current number of charges is from traffic stops.
“Liquor licence Acts, mostly intox, down compared to April last year, almost half. But again that’s because a lot of people weren’t out and about.”
Palson says there have been increases in other crimes.
“Domestic incidents are up just a little bit given the stress of the time but not nearly as much as I’m hearing from my colleagues in other jurisdictions.”
