This is National Nursing Week and CKDR is recognizing the amazing work our dedicated nurses do across the country and here in the region as well.
With the threat of COVID-19, this week carries more importance than ever.
Dryden’s Dawn Armstrong is the Regional Vice President for the Ontario Nurses Association and she has been a Registered Nurse at the hospital for 29 years and she says all nurses deserve recognition.
“All of our hard working nurses out there. The nurses that work at the Health Unit. We have Para-Med Home Care nurses. We have our Local Health Integrated nurses working from home. All of our hard working nurses at Princess Court.”
Armstrong says “Favourite part of my job is actually being a mentor and a leader. I have been involved in the union basically since I started my career and have done several jobs within it. It was always my goal to become a member of the Board of Directors so that I can advocate and be a mentor and leader.”
Armstrong notes she initially wanted to become a doctor, but once she worked as a nurse for some time, she fell in the love with the job and kept doing it.
She admits it can be a tough job sometimes and you may miss a lot of events and birthdays, so if you want to get into the profession, you really must have a passion for helping people.
