The Kenora District Municipal Association is welcoming $10,000 in one time funding from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.
The money will help establish reliable and secure communications between municipalities during the COVID-19 crisis.
The KDMA represents nine municipalities, including the Township of Ignace, which is engaged with the NWMO as a potential host for a deep geological repository for Canada’s used nuclear fuel.
KDMA President Kevin Kahoot says the donation will allow them to purchase much needed information technology equipment and software so they can coordinate virtual communication between municipal leaders in the region.
Vice-President of Site Selection Ben Belfadhel says the KDMA plays an important role in northwestern Ontario and they remain committed to engaging with the organization as they work together to overcome coronavirus challenges.
