A traditional ceremony in Eagle Lake First Nation as three people have received their Ojibwe name.
Leonard Skye orchestrated the ceremony, honouring Brad Bartlett, Abbie Barker and Carole Broughton.
Skye gave the name “Man of Rapids” to Dryden High School’s Brad Bartlett since he works with and helps youth and children.
He stresses he’s glad the Ojibwe culture is being embraced and is pleased to see so many changes since he attended residential school.
Skye notes it’s uplifting to hear and witness Indigenous youth embrace the language in our schools.
He says they lost a lot of the language and traditions when the missionaries came and he’s thrilled to see it come back.
