Canada’s Privacy Commissioner is calling for an independent audit into a Canada Border Services policy that allows officers to search private cell phones, tablets and laptops.
The Commissioner says his office looked into six complaints and found Canada Customs violated the Privacy Act in each one.
Several recommendations have been made for improvement.
Canada Customs says it has since developed a new policy addressing the concerns.
