Ontario’s Natural Resources Minister is holding firm to his decision to wait for a deal for the Fort Frances mill before discussing wood rights.
John Yakabuski was responding to questions from the NDP who say the government has the power to made a decision now.
Yakabuski says “should a deal be brokered together by someone who is prepared to operate the Fort Frances mill location, we would re-look at that allocation.”
However, he stresses he won’t act until he sees an agreement.
NDP Critic Michael Mantha notes when the PC’s were in opposition four years ago, they supported wood allocation rights when another company was trying to acquire the idled plant from Resolute Forest Products.
Mantha accuses the government of “sitting on their hands instead of taking action.”
