Dr. John L Potts
It is with heavy hearts the family of Dr. John L. Potts announce his passing peacefully at home on Saturday March 16, 2019.
John was born in Millertown, Newfoundland, to Ada and Brian Potts on May 9, 1931.
He graduated from Dalhousie University School of Medicine in 1957.
That same year he married Norma Hughes.
They moved to Dryden in 1958 with their infant daughter Nancy (Curtis Murdick) and welcomed Leslie (Peter Brown), Brian (Vitalia Vieira) and Kathy (Jim Eaton) over the next several years. John spent many years practicing Family Medicine in Dryden before finishing his career as Regional Coroner for Northwestern Ontario.
John is survived by all his children and seven grandchildren; Hope, Dennis and Morgan Murdick, Nathan and Lucas Brown and Brianne and Emilie Potts. He has been missing Norma for almost six years.
There will be a private celebration of his life by his family, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dryden Regional Health Services Foundation in memory of Dr. John Potts.
Although John spent the last 61 years of his life in Dryden, in his heart he was always a Maritimer. His children all learned Newfoundland folk songs each morning as their father shaved. Although they will miss him terribly, John is in a better place…”Long may his big jib draw”.
