The Franco-Ontarian community came together as one Tuesday to celebrate its heritage and culture.
A flag raising ceremony was held at Dryden City Hall to mark the start of Franco-Ontarian day.
Claudine Savage is the Principal at Ecole catholique de l’Enfant-Jesus in Dryden.
Savage says the more they expose people to this kind of community event, the more they retain their language and rights as Francophone’s in the community.
She adds it’s important to recognize the cultural diversity of this community.
Savage says as a Francophone, she takes it to heart that she can share her culture with others.
She adds Dryden has more than 525 people who speak French and she believes that number will continue to grow.
She encourages everyone to be open to all cultures in our community and to explore them.
Students and staff also took part in various activities at the high school.
