The development of a 15-unit multi-residential home, child care centre and resources centre for single, Indigenous mothers is starting to take shape in Dryden.
The Kenora District Services Board has severed the old Pinewood School property and transferred the building to the Aboriginal Housing Services, who will be leading construction.
KDSB Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says a final design has been completed for the former school and reconstruction is expected to begin shortly.
Wall says the housing project should be completed late 2018 or early 2019.
He notes they have received $2.9-million in provincial funding to support a child resource centre inside the building.
Wall says additional child care spaces are badly needed in the community.
He adds they will utilize the vast space of land behind the building to establish additional housing units for the community, primarily Seniors housing.
Wall anticipates that the additional housing will be developed in the coming year.
