John Graham Calvert
December 22, 1925 – September 10, 2017
Making a deal was his biggest joy next to his family!!! On September 10, 2017, John Graham Calvert, age 91 years young, made a peaceful, final deal with the Creator. Graham was born in London, Ontario to Annie (Campbell) and Gilbert Calvert and moved to Eagle River in 1946 with his family. Over the years, Graham’s journey took him down various employment paths including driving wood truck with his brother, car hauling across Canada, working the Eagle River coal chutes, farming, wheeler dealer and foreman in the salvage department for Dryden Pulp and Paper Mill until his retirement in 1987. He was known for his bartering skills, anything to do with tractors, babysitting, animal-sitting duties and was willing to help out wherever and whenever he could. He had an uncanny way with words that made you laugh and his kind, gentle soul was always remembered by those who met him.
Graham was hitched in 1950 to Edna Larson and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2017. They were blessed with 4 children, Sharon Weberg (Barry), Jack Calvert (Pat), Jim Calvert (Jeanne) and Joyce Gardner (Stan Blanchard). To enrich his life further, came along 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister, Gladys Hickey of St. Norbert, Manitoba and sister-in-law Iris Calvert of Murillo, Ontario. Graham was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Stuart Calvert, Joseph Calvert and Daniel Calvert, sister-in-law Linnea Calvert and his grandson, Kevin Weberg.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6-8 pm, with service on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1 pm at the Dryden Community Funeral Home, cremation to follow.
