Proving that antique cars are meant to be driven, a trio from the Maritimes has been drawing a lot of attention in Dryden over the past couple of days.
Brian and Edie Murray from Belleisle Nova Scotia, and Brian’s brother Carl from Dawson Settlement, New Brunswick are near the half way mark of their epic coast-to-coast drive that is scheduled to end in Victoria, BC June 20th.
Brian is driving a classic 1948 Mercury with its original flat-head V8, while Carl is behind the wheel of a rare 1958 Austin pick up truck. Both vehicles are towing restored Canadian-built Boler trailers.
This is no ordinary coast-to-coast jaunt, however. In Victoria, the Murrays will join other enthusiasts, all driving vehicles that are at least 30 years old, and embark on a two-month tour across the nation.
After dipping their wheels in the Pacific, the “Canadian Coasters” motorcade of over 100 vehicles will drive back across Canada, ending in St. Johns, Newfoundland September 1. (Among others, Brian and Edie’s daughters Heather and Carrie will drive a restored 1954 Chevy back from Victoria.)
The “Canadian Coasters” Tour originated in 1967 with 7 vehicles and takes place every ten years or so. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the original tour, and the Tour is celebrating “Canada 150.’
