A Minnesota man is trying to stop the closure of a northwestern Ontario camp for the disabled.
Kevin Johnson says the Wilderness Discovery Resort in the Thunder Bay district is one of the best in North America.
He says lease payments used to be $3,600 a year, but the Ministry of Infrastructure has let that rise to what he calls a ransom.
Johnson notes rental costs are now $87,000 a year.
Johnson says there are three area service clubs wanting to re-open the camp, but getting the government to budge seems impossible.
He adds the camp is on public land and helps those living with disabilities.
