Bill was predeceased by his parents: Anne and Charles King, his siblings: Elsie Porter, Walter King, Victor King, and Dorothy Hokanson, and his nephews: Keith Porter, Lloyd King.
Bill was born in Hafford Saskatchewan, on January 13, 1932. He was the youngest of five children. At the age of five, his family moved to Arborg, Manitoba where he grew up farming and commercial fishing on Lake Winnipeg.
Through a mutual friend, Bill met the love of his life, Frances and they were married in 1956. At that time, he was working for North American Lumber. Bill transferred to Dryden as Assistant Manager and their first born, Eric, arrived on their first anniversary. Daughter Sandra was born two years later. In 1960, Bill accepted the Managers position and moved his family to Vermilion Bay. Here, Bill and Frances fell in love with the area, developing many life long friendships, and welcomed their third child, Violet. Camping, fishing, snow machining and curling were just some of Bill’s favourite pastimes with his friends and family. Later, he was hired by the Municipality of Machin as Water Plant Operator and Bylaw/Building Official, until he retired. Bill was active in the community, serving on Machin council, earning his Kinsmen Life Membership, was a member of the Vermilion Bay Rod and Gun Club, and a director on the McIntosh roads board.
Bill was a skilled carpenter, helping his children with home renovations, making furniture for his grandchildren, building a cabin and later their retirement home on Edward Lake. In retirement he remained active spending most of his time outdoors, working in the yard, fishing, gardening, hunting and his favourite, blueberry picking. Bill cherished Sunday family gatherings and the countless memories made with family at the lake. His family meant everything to him.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Bill King will be held on Wednesday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Vermilion Bay with Rev. Alan Campeau officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
