It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and Nanny, Willa Corner, on Monday, January, 21, 2002 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. Willa will be missed by her husband of 48 years, John, daughters Pat, Heather and Robin (Herb), grandchildren Kyla, Kelsey, Danika and Jessica, aunt Ethel McKay of Dryden and brother-in-law Fred Dean also of Dryden, sister-in-law, Yvonne Guthrie of Nanaimo, B.C. Numerous nieces and nephews will also miss their Auntie Willa. Willa was predeceased by her parents James and Jessie Guthrie, brothers Jack, Glen and Jim, sisters-in-law Mary Dean and Amy Howell, son-in-law Ed Morton and recently her only son Stewart. Willa was born on January 31, 1925 in Dryden, Ontario. She was employed by the St. Regis Bag Factory until she was married to John in 1953. Mom felt a strong responsibility to her family. Our house was a second home to many. She loved to prepare meals for her family and company. She was constantly trying out new recipes. Mom loved her kitchen, her hockey games, her curling and of course her animals. Many a “stray” animal found a wonderful home with Mom. She enjoyed the early years of farming, her garden and her many beautiful houseplants. Great sources of joy in her life were her grandchildren. She had to be kept informed as to how and where they were at all times. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her fifth grandchild Madison in March. Madison now has two special guardian angels to bring her safely to us. We will always remember Mom for her caring heart and her quiet way of always being there. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to celebrate Willa’s life was held on Friday, January 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Lukes Anglican Church with Rev. Jody Miles officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dryden Humane Society or to a charity of your choice through the Dryden Community Funeral Home 249, Grand Trunk Avenue, Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
