Cozy Cabin Saturdays
January 1st through March 15th in Sioux Lookout

Cozy Cabin Saturdays are a great way to enjoy a hot drink and some fine company. Walk down to the Lakeshore in Sioux Lookout for this event which will take place from 12-4pm. Cabin will close at dusk each Saturday. Volunteers are required as are donations of baked goods, lightly used board games/puzzles, and nature books. Contact Beth at 737-7459 for more information.

FOURTH Annual $3,000 Karaoke Contest
January 22nd through April 24th in Dryden

Get your vocal chords tuned up for the Fourth Annual $3,000 Karaoke Contest. Contest runs weekly until the finals on April 24th. Friday nights at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dryden. This year, proceeds will be split between the Dryden Ice Dogs and the Canadian Red Cross.

Gear For Grads
February 25th through April 9th in Dryden

Gear for Grads, a new program at Dryden High School is urgently looking for donations of gently used formal wear (for young men & women) and accessories, to offer students whose individual situations may not allow them to otherwise attend graduation. Items such as formal gowns, suits, ties, and shoes may be dropped off at the Main Office of Dryden High School between 8am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Pick up can be arranged by calling 223-2316, press 0, and leave a message.

Easter Food Drive 2010
March 1st through March 30th in Dryden

The Standard Insurance and CKDR are one again challenging Dryden area businesses to collect non-perishable food for the Dryden Food Bank!

The object of the challenge is for each business to collect as many bags or small boxes of 10 non-perishable food items as they can. Then staple a business card to each one and keep them at your business until the end of March.

The business with the most bags/boxes of 10 items in each of three categories will receive lunch from Subway Restaurant. The categories are:

  • 1-7 employees
  • 8-15 employees
  • 15 to 25 employees


The employees of the three winning categories also have a chance to win an iPod Nano, donated by The Standard Insurance. One entry per employee.

If your business wishes to participate, email Kelly or Lisa at The Standard Insurance - or call them at 223-3676. Please make sure you include your category, and a contact person.

Participants are also encouraged to call CKDR to update their progress from time to time. Keep listening to CKDR to find out who is leading the pack!

3rd Annual Dryden Kinette Luggage Drive
March 2nd through March 31st in Dryden

When children come into Foster care they may not get to bring many belongings. They may lack appropriate bags or luggage for the items that hold a considerable amount of sentimental value and are most important to them.

The Kinette Club of Dryden will be accepting gently used luggage, duffel bags, backpacks and canvas bags for the month of March. All donations can be dropped off at Michelle’s Top Drawer in Dryden (corner of Duke and Whyte) All items collected will be donated to Kenora-Patricia Child and Family Services in Dryden.

Dryden Palliative Care Volunteer Program
December 31st in Dryden

The Dryden Palliative Care Volunteer Program is urgently in need of volunteers in the community.

Volunteers visit clients in their homes, nursing home, and the hospital. Volunteers play an important role in providing support services for the client and family, companionship, relief for caregivers, transportation to appointments, friendly visits, and end-of-life care.

Training will be provided.
