It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle and friend, Stew, on December 17, 2001, at Winnipeg HSC Intensive Care Unit, with his sister Pat at his side. Stewart was born on August 7, 1958, and lived in Oxdrift, ON all his life. He attended Oxdrift Public School and Dryden High School as well as completing a few years of College. He then decided to work in the carpentry business. Stewart was a wonderful person whose sense of humour and respect for mankind will never be seen again. He was an active community member with the Oxdrift Rec. Committee, Minor Ball, Fast Ball and initiated many activities such as SNOWBALL. He has coached many children’s teams. He was an avid reader, Neil Young was his favorite musician and there was no hockey team that counted except Montreal. An accident in his early twenties left him with long term pain that he has always struggled with. His strength, determination and motivation have always been a source of inspiration to many people. Stewart is survived by his parents Willa and John Corner of Oxdrift, sisters(s) Heather (nieces Danika and Jessica), Robin (Fiance Herb) and baby Madisson Amy who will arrive in March, Pat (Niece Kyla and Nephew Kelsey) of Winnipeg. Also Aunt Yvonne Guthrie of Ucluelet, Uncle Fred Dean of Dryden, and Great Aunt Ethel McKay of Dryden and many, many friends. His much loved pets, Herman, Barney and Abigail are feeling his absence. We wish to extend a very special thanks to Dr. C. Eisner who has been Stew’s solid source of support and guidance, as well as the staff of Dryden Hospital and Dingwall Clinic. A very special thanks to Dr. A. Matheson, Dr. Intrater, nurse Sharon and all of the team at HSC pain Clinic who worked with Stew. (We were finally getting there!) To Dr. A. Robertson and nurse Kami at HSC Intensive care and the other staff, your care and compassion for Stew in his last days will never be forgotten. Jeanette Dutka, Chris Ball, Kelly Robertson and Wendy Barton, you have been angels to our family. A Memorial Service for Stewart was held on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Church in Dryden, with Rev. Jodi Miles officiating. Interment of ashes at a later date.
If friends so desire donations may be made to the Oxdrift Recreation Committee or the charity of your choice through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
