Stella May Lands Montour

In loving memory of Stella May Lands Montour born July 5, 1956.
She is a member of Migisi Sahgaigan, Eagle Lake First Nations.
Stella is survived by her children; Christy, Mike, Jessie (Vicky) and Ross and will be sadly missed by her loving partner Ken. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ebony, Toni Lynn, Donovan, Draydon, Becca, Justice, Serenity, Garret and Logan and great grandson; Gunnar and will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her siblings will miss her loving, caring and infectious laughter; Brenda (Roger), Ruth (Cal), Marty (Marie), Norman (Serena), Christa (Floyd), Mitchel (Pat) and Patrick (Lou Anne).
An animal lover, she loved her dogs; Chewie and Otis and her cats; Grady, Sam, Ojistohn and Jasmine.
Stella was predeceased by her father; Robert Lands, mother; Rosalie Lands and siblings; George, Shirley and Darcy.
Stella completed her degree at Confederation College in the Native Community Worker program and graduated with honours.
She loved children and was a foster mother to many. She worked for Ontario Native Women’s Association as a Victorian Order of Nurses Care Worker and William Creighton Youth Services as a Youth Worker at the J.J. Kelso Centre. Stella also volunteered as a board member for People Advocating for Change through Empowerment and Canadian Mental Health Association, all in Thunder Bay.
She liked creative writing, loved dancing, her rock paintings, traditional singing, weight-lifting and fishing with family on Eagle Lake. She was an actor in the Sanity Project and told her life stories in Photo Voice. Most notably she was involved in aboriginal rights and mental health advocacy. Her greatest professional and personal accomplishment was being featured in a film produced by Laura Skye’s Production Company, SkyWorks Communications, called “Crisis Call”.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 8 p.m. until time of service at the Eagle Lake Community Hall. A Traditional Service will take place on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Community hall with a Native Elder and Pastor Velma Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Eagle Lake Cemetery.
