         <title>Sioux Lookout's Ryan Parent May Dress for Philly</title>

         <description>It could be a big day for Sioux Lookout's Ryan Parent.
     The steady defenceman may dress tonight for the Philadelphia Flyers
in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final with Pittsburgh.
     Braydan Coburn is doubtful for the big game due to an eye injury,
putting Parent next in line to play.
     Parent skated in 22-regular season games and dressed for the playoff
opener against Washington.

         <title>Great Showing on the Links for Eagle Boys</title>

         <description> The Dryden Eagle Boys had their best tournament of the season at the
Fortune Bay Minnesota golf club Sunday.
     The Eagles finished 6th out of 26-teams from Northern Minnesota.
     Josh Borton and Josh Semeniuk shot an 81 to finish tied for 12th out of
156 competitors.
     Wade Wetelainen placed 31st, Brett Getson was 39th, Ian McMillan
finished 46th and Graeme Nickle placed 70th.

         <title>Slo-Pitch Meeting Tonight in Dryden</title>

         <description>     The Dryden Men's Slo-Pitch League is hosting its Annual General
meeting Monday night at 7 o'clock.
     The meeting is upstairs at the Dryden Rec Centre and up to 2-team
reps are asked to attend.
     The session is also open to players interested in forming a new team.
     The season is expected to start late this month.

         <description>     A strong showing for the Dryden Eagle Girls at a weekend soccer
tournament in Winnipeg.
     The Eagles advanced to the bronze medal game thanks to a pair of 2-1
wins over Westgate and Glenlawn.
     Dryden faced Vinceny Massey in the third place match and dropped a
5-0 decision.

         <title>More Money to Light Ball Diamonds</title>

         <description>   The Dryden Light the Ball Diamonds Committee received $2,200    
over the weekend.
     The money is from the Paper Baseball Campaign at Wal-Mart.
     The group has now launched the Pennant Program to recognize any
donation of $1,000 or more.
     The pennants will be hung on the 16-light standards to go up at the
Sandy Beach Ball Diamonds.

         <description>     Mixed Slo-Pitch is making a return to Dryden.
     With overwhelming support, the league was officially formed Thursday
at a special public meeting.
     8-teams will make up the league this season, with play scheduled to
start May 30th.
     Some teams have a few openings and interested players can call Chris
at 221-2647.

Volleyball Provincials on a winning note.
     The Whiskeyjacks defeated Kenora in 5-sets in an exhibition
game in Kenora.
     Next up for Dryden is the Provincials this weekend in Winnipeg.

     The Dryden Eagle golf teams had a successful day on the course at
International Falls, Minnesota Wednesday.
     The Boys and Girls both finished third out of 17 teams.
     Melissa Kamm led the girls team with a score of 91 to capture the
silver medal.
     Ian McMillan placed 6th in the boys division with an 80.

     Eagles Landing is the first course to open, with play scheduled to
start Thursday morning.

         <title>Golf Season Underway for Eagles</title>

         <description>
     A good start to the Spring Golf season for the Dryden Eagles.
     The Girls finished 7th out of 17 teams at a tournament in Minnesota,
while the Boys placed 11th out of 21 teams.
     Melissa Kamm was named to the All-Tournament Team with a 10th place
finish, while Josh Semeniuk led the Boys with an 18th place finish.
     The Boys and Girls are back on the course today in International Falls.

         <title>Another Hockey Title for Dryden Boys</title>

         <description>     4-Dryden residents are home after capturing the Duluth Showdown
AAA Hockey Tournament in Minnesota.
     Geoff Kitt, Josh Oberg, Trevor Kavanaugh and Brendan Bartlett and the
Thunder Bay 1997 Selects downed previously undefeated Duluth 5-1 in the
championship game.
     The Selects finished the tournament undefeated.
     2-weeks ago the boys also won the Minnesota Meltdown open tournament.

     Soccer season is just around the corner and the Dryden Senior Soccer
Men's and Women's leagues are looking for players.
     A registration night is set for tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 9 at the Holiday Inn Express and new players are welcome to sign up.
     Dryden Soccer is also looking for referees and an entry level clinic
is planned for May 30th and 31st.
     Organizers need at least 10 people to register to host the clinic.
     Call Andrew at 223-8938 for any information.

         <description>     The Volleyball season has come to an end for 2-more Dryden Whiskey
Jack teams.
     The Under 13 squad participated in the Manitoba Provincials over the
weekend and received a bye into the first round of the playoffs.
     The Girls pushed their competition to 3-sets in each of their 3
playoff games before exiting the tournament.
     The Under 14 Girls placed third in their pool at the Provincials and
finished the playoff round with a 2-2 record.
     The coaching staff was pleased with both teams efforts.

         <title>Fort Frances Muskie Becoming an Otter</title>

         <description>     First a Muskie, now an Otter.
     Fort Frances Muskie star forward Joe Basaraba was selected 22nd
overall by the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League draft on the
weekend.
     The 6 foot 2, 170 pound centre scored 8-goals and 12-assists in 12
regular season games with the NWOSSA champions this year.
     Other Northerners picked late in the draft include Carson Dubchak of
Kenora, Schreiber's Greg Trichilo, Marshall and Mitchell Fox of Thunder
Bay and Cody Fraser of Thunder Bay.

The Under 18 girls dropped a 3 sets decision to a team from Embrum Sunday afternoon. (25-22, 25-27, 15-9)
Dryden got to the Tier 3 Championship game with a win over Swift Current Saturday and straight set playoff wins against North Vancouver and Estevan Sunday.

         <description>The Dryden Whiskeyjacks are 1-1 on Day 2 of the Under 18 Girls National Volleyball Championship in Ottawa.
The Whiskeyjacks opened Saturday play with a 2 sets to 1 win over a team from Shelburne (20-25, 25-21, 16-14).
Dryden's second game didn't go as well as the girls dropped a straight sets decision to a team from Halifax (25-20, 25-20).
The Whiskeyjacks still have to deal with Swift Current today.
