         <title>Sioux Council Member Resigns to Take Airport Job</title>

         <description>Sioux Lookout Municipal Councilor Ben Hancharuk has resigned his seat on Council to accept a position as the Assistant Manager of the Sioux Lookout Airport.

The appointment was announced in a press release from Sioux Lookout CEO Merline Dewing.  Dewing notes that Hancharuk brings considerable experience with the Airport Commission and in the aviation field and is a highly respected member of the community, making him the perfect fit for the airport's business plan</description>

         <title>Thunder Bay Man faces child porn charges</title>

         <description>A 61-year-old Thunder Bay man is among thirty-five people across Ontario who face new child pornography charges.
Michael Daniel Bewyck was charged with a count of accessing child pornography in a coordinated probe by provincial police and several municipal police services.
In all a total of 122 charges were laid after police executive 44 search warrants.
Two child victims were been identified.</description>

         <title>Hydro One Upgrades</title>

         <description>Hydro One is planning to spend more than two-million dollars in upgrades to its transmission lines in the Kenora district.
The work includes replacing more than 50 poles in an area west of the city that runs through dense bush and forest.
Crews have already started that work using helicopter to bring new polls to work sites and large bucket trucks to install the poles and cross arms.</description>

         <title>Deal for Abitibi Bowater workers</title>

         <description>AbitibiBowater employees can breathe easier.   The Canadian Paperworkers Union has negotiated an agreement with the company over pensions.   The CEP's Kim Ginter says the tentative deal with the company will fix the shortfall in the pension plan affecting retirees and active workers.   
The tentative deal will go to the workers for a vote sometime in early April.</description>

         <title>Sioux OPP Scoop Drunk Drivers</title>

         <description>Sioux Lookout OPP were busy with two separate incidents involving impaired drivers this past Sunday.

Sunday morning, a 24 year old Manitoba man was charged with impaired driving and possession of marijuana - police say his blood alcohol level was one and a half times legal level.

Sunday afternoon, OPP investigated a single vehicle collision that sent two passengers to Sioux Lookout Hospital.  The 41 year old male driver, from Winnipeg, was charged after police recorded blood alcohol levels of almost three times the legal limit.  The driver faces charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm and was held in custody overnight.</description>

Thunder Bay Board chair Andrew Campbell says it pretends to be from Habitat International and asks for money to help with earthquake relief in Haiti.  Campbell says the people behind the scam ask for personal information that can be used to steal your identity.</description>

         <title>Accident Victim Identified</title>

         <description>OPP have released the name of a Sioux Narrows man who was killed in an early morning collision on highway 71.

42 year old Brian Beacham of Sioux Narrows was killed when his van collided with a tractor trailer unit shortly after midnight just south of Nestor Falls.

Police say the van was heading north and the collision occurred in the southbound lane.  Highway 71 was closed for about ten hours this (Tues) morning.</description>

         <title>New Programs to Recruit Docs to North</title>

         <description>There are two new government programs to recruit doctors to northern Ontario.   The first will be providing grants to doctors and new medical grads who agree to practice in the north or highly rural communities.  In making the announcement in Thunder Bay Health Minister Deb Matthews says it replaces the Underserviced Areas Program which she says wasn't working anymore

As well Matthews announced a program that allows graduates to pratice for five years in any Ontario community except Toronto and Ottawa.  In return they get postraduate training opportunities</description>

         <title>School Board and Teachers Reach Agreement</title>

         <description>Talks have concluded between the public school board and the Elementary Teachers Union.

The two sides have come to an agreement in the terms and conditions of employment for teachers joining the KP Board from three former District School Authorities.

Both parties believe groundwork has been laid to provide a smooth transition through to the next round of negotiations in 2012.

No further details will be released pending ratification. 

The parties intend to ratify the
settlements over the course of the next few weeks.</description>

         <description>Rainy River Resources has a better indication of how much gold it has in plans for a potential gold mine in Richardson township, northwest of Emo.

President Raymond Threlkeld says a resource estimate points to about 2.3 million ounces of know resources, but more work must be done to confirm another 2.7 million ounces in inferred resources.

Threlkeld says they may have a better indication about the inferred resources when another resource estimate come out in the fall.</description>

         <description>Federal NDP are planning to put forward yet another private members bill that calls for FEDNOR to be a stand-alone agency.

A similar bill was killed on the order table in the last session of Parliament when it was prorogued.

FEDNOR critic Claude Gravelle says its important to have the funding agency separate from Industry Canada.

Gravelle says a separate agency may help communities and organizations access funding quicker.</description>

         <description>Grand Council Treaty #3 has started up a program to help out survivors of the Indian Residential School system.
A support program has been set up which will help claimants and their families get access to financial and emotional support.
Two support workers will support survivors through various events and hearings surrounding the residential school system.
Treaty 3 says there are 24,000 former residential school students living in the area and says the new program will have the flexibility to meet the diverse needs of survivors.
