Happy Halloween!
Trick and treaters will be making the rounds Tuesday night and the Dryden Police Service wants to make sure everyone stays safe.
Community Services Officer Denise Szachury says for motorists, you are asked to slow down or even adjust your travel plans.
Szachury says motorists should know that kids may be darting out in the middle of the road with all of the excitement of Halloween.
For trick-or-treaters, Szachury asks that you wear bright colours, reflective tape and use a flashlight or glow stick so that you can easily be seen.
You should also avoid costumes with baggy sleeves and long hems.
“Operation Pumpkin” is also back for another year.
The annual initiative is a joint venture with Dryden Police, Bell Canada and the Amateur Radio Club.
If anyone needs help, you can approach volunteers and officers who will be patrolling area streets.
A reminder that the Mill sirens will sound at 6:00pm and 8:00pm to mark the start and end of Halloween.
Other tips:
-Wear bright colours, reflective tape and use a flashlight or glow stick.
-Avoid costumes with baggy sleeves and long hems and wear make-up instead of a mask.
-Be respectful of people’s property
-Don’t trick or treat alone, walk in a group or with a trusted adult
-Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering. Don’t eat candy until you get home.
-Stay in well lit, familiar areas and neighbourhoods
-Wear make-up instead of a mask. But if you do wear a mask, make sure you can see, hear and breathe well in your mask.
-Stay on one side of the road and then the other. Do not cross back and forth over the roadway.
-Never enter a stranger’s home-stay outside on the porch or steps.
