Patty Hajdu says she was surprised by Tuesday's cabinet shuffle.
The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP is now the federal minister for Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour.
Hajdu says she only found out about the change on Monday but she's ready to tackle her new role.
She says she's looking forward to being briefed on the issues facing the Labour ministry.
Hajdu says she feels she left the Status of Women portfolio in good shape for Maryam Monsef.
She notes launching the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Inquiry was important to her, along with starting to set up a strategy against gender-based violence.
