Sioux Lookout is preparing for a first of its kind Northern Housing Summit.
Non-profit agencies, government officials, First Nations and private sector organizations will gather in the community starting Monday for a week-long conversation on housing needs.
Mayor Doug Lawrance says those in attendance will discuss partnerships, barriers, gaps and opportunities.
Lawrance says housing has been an issue in his community for more than 33 years, but notes it is becoming more so all the time.
Lawrance stresses a lack of housing is limiting economic development opportunities.
He notes the ultimate goal is sharing ideas to create more housing options in Sioux Lookout.
Lawrance says there is still time to register for the sessions and notes it’s open to anyone interested in housing concerns in northwestern Ontario.
