Kenora MP Bob Nault is praising the latest funding announcement from the Liberal government.
The federal share for infrastructure projects will increase from 50% to 60%.
Nault says this change was necessary for several local municipalities.
For communities under 100,000 in population, municipalities will now be responsible for 17% of the costs, down from 33%.
For those with a population of less than 5,000, the municipal share will be dropped to only 7%.
Nault believes the investment will allow small communities like Vermilion Bay, Pickle Lake, Redditt, Minaki to apply for funding that they originally wouldn’t be able to access.
He says some communities in the north have such a small tax base, that they couldn’t afford the upgrades under the old funding structure.
