Concern regarding a lack of funding for hospitals in northwestern Ontario.
The Canadian Union Of Public Employees held a rally in Kenora Tuesday to protest funding cuts.
Michael Hurley is the President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and he says a big problem with health care in the north is hospitals aren’t properly equipped and patients have to be sent elsewhere.
Hurley says the cost for treatment is being shifted to area families, because the Northern Travel Grant is very inadequate.
He adds most facilities don’t have the proper equipment for staff to properly care for patients.
Hurley adds there is a desperate need for proper services in this region.
Hurley is calling for a 5% increase in hospital budgets during Thursday’s release of the provincial budget.
