The Dryden Rotary Club handed out its top honour Wednesday night at a special ceremony.
Three community members and five members of Rotary received the Paul Harris Fellows Award for their exceptional commitment to volunteering and making a true difference in the community.
Mike Wood was one of the recipients for the establishment of the new rubberized track at Dryden High School and he says the project has made a big difference in the lives of local youth.
He says it’s something for the kids to do and get excited for school.
Wood says an active leads to better grades, more dedication and better life skills.
He also thanked former School Board Director Jack McMaster and local contractors for their support with the initiative.
The second community member honoured was Mardie Plomp for her work raising money for cancer research and the Dryden Hospital.
She created ‘Dream Believers’ and was inspired by her mom who passed away from breast cancer.
Plomp says she wanted to toast her mom and other women who suffer from cancer.
Plomp says her little dream has expanded and she’s so proud of the growth.
The third recipient was Judith Hamilton for resurrecting Theatre 17.
Hamilton says the community has always supported them and that’s why they wanted to give back to the community.
She says all money raised from their performances is spread around the community.
Theatre 17 has hosted 11 plays since 2004.
Rotarians receiving the Paul Harris Fellows Award include John Borst, Sandra Boyko, Peter Marshall, Lisa Turcott and Beth Rose.
