The Kenora District Services Board says it plans to be very aggressive in its housing strategy in 2018.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says they now have the funding to really put a dent in the homelessness situation in the region.
Wall says their goal this year is to build or renovate as many as 100 new units in communities across the Kenora District.
Wall notes that’s just a drop in the bucket to what they actually need.
He says as an example, for every family that they house, they have 20-27 new families that are entering their wait list.
Wall says they plan to work with other agencies and private developers to complete their plan.
The KDSB has a budget that’s about $13-million more than last year, in part to help tackle housing issues in the region.
