It's being called an historic agreement.
All the major parties in the Kenora area have signed on to an agreement committing to develop an All-Nations hospital to serve all local residents.
Frances Kavanaugh is the Grand Chief of Treaty Three and says we're not currently being well-served by the existing health care system.
Kavanaugh says we all share the common problems with the respect to a lack of high end services in area hospitals, noting we continually have to send people to health care centres in Thunder Bay, Toronto or Hamilton.
Kenora MP Bob Nault says the job now is to secure the funding from the federal and provincial levels of government to move the plans forward.
Nault says he's confident they can secure the funding, noting the end challenge is ensuring stable funding and the proper infrastructure is in place during the operation of the facility.
He adds part of their ultimate plan is reforming the local health care system.
