The Wynne government is banking that new energy rebates will help revive the premier’s popularity.
Starting Sunday, the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax will be coming off your hydro bill.
Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault adds there are also other initiatives to help larger electrical users.
He says for businesses who use more than 1-megawatt of power, they could see anywhere from a 14%-34% reduction in their electricity bills.
Thibeault says some consumers in rural and remote areas of the province, such as northwestern Ontario, they will be able to save another 12% on their hydro bills.
Thibeault notes the Remote and Rural Rate Protection Plan is designed to help offset the high distribution charges.
The rebates come at the same time Union Gas rates are going up.
Officials say it’s because of the provincial government’s new cap and trade regulations that will have a $74 dollar impact on the total bill for a typical household.
The increase to your natural gas rates could range annually anywhere from $56 to $163.
