Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde says a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Trudeau government is a good start.
However, he stresses their work won’t be complete until the quality of life for First Nations is the same as everyone else in Canada.
Bellegarde says a huge gap still needs to be closed for their children and grandchildren.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the deal will guide future discussions and shared priorities.
He believes they have charted a new path forward that will be anchored in respect, collaboration and cooperation.
