A number of Northwestern Ontario residents have been awarded citations by the OPP for bravery or life-saving actions in the past year.
A total of eight civilians were recognized at a special awards banquet this week.
Gwen Boniface is the commissioner of the OPP and says members of the public who go above and beyond the call of duty makes the job of policing easier.
Jennifer Smith, of Red Lake, was presented a life-saving citation for trying to revive a 16-year-old youth who was struck by lightning last August.
