Environment Canada has issued a ‘Severe Thunderstorm Watch’ for most of our area.
The watch was issued at 2:30 and is in effect for: Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Red Lake, Ear Falls, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Kenora, Fort Frances and west into Winnipeg.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Scattered thunderstorms are developing. Some of these thunderstorms might become severe later this afternoon.
The major threat with these thunderstorms will be large hail, local heavy downpours and strong wind gusts as well.
At 2:45, Doppler Radar was tracking small, intense thunderstorm systems sweeping up from the SouthWest and tracking NE across Sioux Narrows, and Kenora with another storm system tracking NE toward Fort Frances. These systems are tracking toward the Dryden area.
