Its International Fetal Alcohol Syndrome day and the Dryden Native Friendship Centre is targeting area youth in its latest public awareness campaign.
Community Support Worker Janis Wessel says the younger generation needs to understand the negative effects of drinking and doing drugs during pregnancy.
Wessel believes the message is starting to get out and notes education is the best way to prevent FAS.
Each person with FAS can cost the Canadian Taxpayer $1.5 million and some of the characteristics include growth deficiencies as well as organ and facial problems.
