A five-year memorandum of understanding has been reached between Lakehead University and the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay.
The deal means Lakehead faculty and students can visit and perform research at the facility much more easily.
Assistant Professor Michael Rennie is a researcher at the ELA and he says the partnership just makes sense.
Rennie notes Lakehead is one of the top research focus institutes in the north and the ELA is one of the research facilities in the world.
Rennie says the agreement means that the two institutions can collaborate and share more easily, all in the name of protecting the world’s freshwater supplies.
He stresses it’s another major step in the facility opening its doors to the world.
Rennie stresses the experiential learning that comes from performing research outside of a lab is invaluable.
