The LGBTQ+ community will come together for two days in Sioux Lookout starting on Friday.
A ‘Be Free Be Me’ Conference featuring keynote speakers, interactive workshops and fun activities is being held at the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship and Sioux North High School.
Organizer Kelly Harbour was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Wednesday to promote the free event.
Harbour says there will be breakout sessions for youth, educators, health care professionals and community members.
She says it’s very important for people to feel included and safe in the community they are living in, especially youth.
Harbour says if they are educating adults, service providers, educators as well as create opportunities for people to socialize and network together, that can really impact peoples well-being and happiness.
She notes the ultimate goal is building friendships and building connections for a better community.
You can sign-up now or just show up at the door and Harbour says more than 60-people have already registered.
The Friday activities include a Service Fair of agencies and organizations in Sioux Lookout who support the 2SLGBTQ+ communities, as well as a Grandfather Drum, 2-Spirit teachings, and a communal dinner.
