OPP and the Nishinabe-Aski Police Service will be expanding their Highway check-stops to include regional ice roads for the remainder of the Winter.
They are responding to concerns from Chiefs on remote First Nations about the amount of contraband alcohol and drugs making its way into their communities.
OPP Spokesperson Debra Tully-Waffler says anyone caught smuggling illegal material will not only forfeit their goods but they could lose any vehicle used to transport the items.
Police will be concentrating on the Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake areas.
