A well-known, non-profit organization that helps amputees across the country is celebrating its 100th Anniversary.
Public Affairs Officer Jamie Lunn says the War Amps was created in 1918 when First World War amputees returned home.
Lunn says there wasn’t a lot of support for those injured soldier’s, so the Association was formed to help them integrate back into society.
Lunn and in 1946 its signature “War Amps Key Tag” program was established.
The service helps return lost keys to their rightful owner.
Lunn says it was set-up by servicemen, who wanted to give back to Canada.
Key tags will once again be coming out in the mail in the Spring.
The key tag and address label program is the main provider of funds for the organization as they do not receive any government grants.
