O-P-P say, despite the snow and the recent cold weather, it is not yet safe to venture out onto the ice.
There have been several cases of snowmachines going through ice around the region and an elderly Lac Seul man drowned recently after attempting to walk across an ice-covered lake.
Red Lake O-P-P Constable Myra Rusk says the ice on area waterways is still dangerously thin and certainly not yet safe for snowmachines or even walking for that matter.
Rusk says ice should be at least 10 centimetres thick for walking, 12 centimetres for snowmaching and 20 to 30 centimetres for cars and light trucks.
