59 dogs from northern communities near the Manitoba/Ontario border will soon have new homes.
The Ontario SPCA has been working with a number of groups, including North Star Air, to transfer the dogs down to southern Ontario.
Spokesperson Daryl Vaillencourt says the canines will be adopted out once they are seen by a vet.
Vaillencourt says they will get them through the health checks and will help them get through any challenges.
The OSPCA is calling this the “Year of the Northern Dog”, as they continue their campaign to help feed and adopt out hounds from remote first nation communities.
Vaillencourt says they have partnered with cities like Barrie, Orillia, Oakville and Petawawa, so they can be adopted.
