The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says public sector workers make more and work less.
It’s a finding in the CFIB’s latest ‘Wage Watch’ report.
The report shows private sector workers make $8,200 less per year and work up to six hours more each week.
CFIB Vice President Ted Mallett says topping up public sector wages and benefits is costing taxpayers $20 billion per year.
Mallett says tying wage increases to inflation would close the wage gap over time.
He says it’s the elephant in the room for cash-strapped governments.
Mallett believes governments need to start reining in the misaligned costs.
