Almost a quarter of people killed on roads patrolled by Provincial Police over the past decade were not wearing a seatbelt.
That’s according to statistics from the OPP, which say that of the 2,483 people who lost their lives between 2009 and 2018 in collisions, 594 weren’t buckled in.
Men between the ages of 25 and 64 account for the highest number of seat belt related deaths.
A lack of seat belt use has been a factor in 10 of the 47 deaths in road collisions this year.
OPP were out in full force over the long weekend, with no major incidents reported.
Commissioner Thomas Carrique says it doesn’t matter if you’re a driver or a passenger, you need to make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt.
