Monday is Franco-Ontarian Flag Day with community events being held across northwestern Ontario.
The day is aimed at promoting French language, culture and history and educating the public and our youth.
Claudine Savage is the Head Administrator of the Ecole catholique de l’Enfant-Jesus school in Dryden and she says the flag was created at Laurentian University in Sudbury in 1975.
Savage says Queen’s Park officially recognized the flag on June 21st, 2001 as the second official symbol outside of Quebec.
She adds the provincial government proclaimed September 25th as Franco-Ontarian Day in 2010.
A special ceremony will be held at Dryden High School and City Hall to recognize the day.
